Ryan Gosling To Star In & Produce An Adaptation Of Donald E. Westlake’s ‘Memory’

Ryan Gosling is arguably one of the most dependable names in modern Hollywood. His versatility allows him to shine in a bevy of genres from musicals like La La Land to action-thrillers like Blade Runner 2049. Up next, according to Deadline, the Canadian performer will team up with director Duke Johnson for a new film appropriately titled The Actor.

Per the initial report, the movie is based on Donald E. Westlake’s acclaimed novel Memory. The film’s plot charts the life of a New York actor named Paul Cole, portrayed by Gosling in the adaptation. After being beaten and left for dead in 1950s Ohio, Cole loses his memory. Stranded in the mysterious small-town, Cole needs to find his way back home. The film will follow him as he pieces together his past, reclaims his identity, and finds his true purpose in life.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things producer Duke Johnson will direct the feature with a script he co-wrote alongside Stephen Cooney (The Lurking Man). Additionally, Gosling will serve as one of the picture’s executive producers as well. Moreover, Ken Kao (The Favourite), Abigail Spencer (Grey’s Anatomy), and Paul Young (Wolfwalkers) are on-board to produce as well. The film will be presented to potential buyers at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

Gosling last appeared on the big screen in Damien Chazelle‘s First Man. His upcoming projects include a starring role in The Wolfman. The actor will also team up with John Wick director David Leitch for an upcoming stuntman drama in the works at Universal Pictures. Notably, Gosling will join megastars Chris Evans and Ana De Armas in The Russo Brothers’ Netlfix flick The Gray Man.
